I taught Social Science at Edgewood 1965 through 1987 (when it became a middle school) and then taught at WCHS 1988 through 2003 when I retired. I have continued to be an avid cyclist, setting world records in 1975, 76, and 79. I was hit by a car driving in the bike lane last October and may need a knee replacement. I still cycle 50+ miles per week, but slower and flatter. I usually read 2 books per week and enjoy cooking and time with my children (who, really, are not children anymore. One of my career highlights was participating (as Social Science Department Chair) in the West Covina High School "turnaround". (We went from the threat of LA County receivership and became a national blue ribbon high school 2003.)

School Story

I have many fond memories of coaching the track and cross country teams (1965-1972). Track went from 1 / 9 (1964, one win and 9 losses) to 7 / 3 in 65 and was a serious contender for league championships every year '66 - '72. The '72 mile relay time of 3:21.6 (Tim Hillenberg, Gary Hahn, Dave LeGier, and Jon Cattledge) has never been broken! The nickname for all of the mile relay teams was the "Trojan Horses".
I remember John Teresa (ASB Advisor) running down a student who had attempted a snatch, grab, and run theft. I didn't know John had been a sprinter in college. I remember the excellence of the Trojanaires and many folks believing it would be "impossible" to replace Donna Koepke (but we got Richard Kinsler and the excellence continued).

Ray was our star high jumper on the first EHS track team I coached in 1965.  He was a hard worker, always had a smile, never a cross word, always helped to carry in the "Porta-Pits".  A real gentleman.  Taken from us too soon! RIP!
